The Resurrection

The Twelfth Truth

The Gate of Prophethood and Revelation: The Manifestation of Bismillāhirrahmānirrahīm

Is it at all possible that meaningless delusions, which hardly possess the strength of a fly’s wing, could have the power to close the path to the Hereafter and the gate of Paradise, while that path has been opened with absolute certainty by the Qur’an—which is a miracle in forty aspects—with the strength of its thousands of clear verses, and by the Noble Messenger (saw), with the strength of his miracles? All the prophets confirm his message on the basis of their own miracles, all the awliyā affirm his mission on the basis of their kashfiyyāt and karāmāt, and all the asfiyā testify to his truthfulness after thorough investigation.

Indeed, from the preceding Truths it is clearly understood that the resurrection is such a firmly established truth that even a power strong enough to destroy the world could not shake it. For this truth is established by Allah Almighty through the necessity of all His Names and attributes, confirmed by the Noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) through all his miracles and proofs, proven by the Qur’an through all its truths and verses, and witnessed by the universe through all the wondrous created beings and all the purposeful acts within it.

Is it then at all possible that this truth—firm and exalted like a mountain—could be shaken or dislodged from its place by doubts and satanic whisperings that hardly possess the strength of a single hair, while Wājibul-Wujūd has promised the coming of the resurrection and the whole of creation, apart from the unbelievers, bears witness to it? No, absolutely not.

Do not suppose that the proofs for the resurrection are limited to the twelve Truths discussed earlier. Just as the Qur’an teaches these twelve Truths, it also points to thousands of other aspects of the resurrection, each of which is a powerful proof that our Creator will transfer us from this transient abode to an eternal one.

And do not assume that the Names of Allah which require the resurrection are limited only to the Names such as al-Hakīm, al-Karīm, ar-Rahīm, al-Adl, and al-Hafīz, which we have discussed in this treatise. Rather, all the Names of Allah that are manifested in the governance of this universe require the resurrection and make it necessary.

And do not think that the wondrous created beings which serve as proofs for the resurrection are limited only to what we have mentioned. Most created beings possess various aspects and qualities that can be opened like two curtains, one to the left and one to the right. One aspect testifies to the Creator, and the other serves as a proof for the resurrection.

Indeed, just as the artistry in the creation of man—who has been created in the best form—points to the existence of the Creator, so too man’s short life, despite his being equipped with comprehensive capacities, points to the resurrection. Sometimes a single aspect, viewed from two different perspectives, reveals both the existence of the Creator and the proof for the resurrection.

For example, the reality of wisdom, ināyah, justice, and mercy, clearly visible in most created beings, indicates that they proceed from the power of an All-Wise, Generous, Just, and Merciful Creator. On the other hand, the insignificance and transience of the created beings in which these qualities appear make clear the existence of the Hereafter, where Names such as al-Hakīm, al-Karīm, al-Adl, and ar-Rahīm will manifest eternally.

This means that every created being, in its own way, expresses

‌‌اٰمَنْتُ بِاللّٰهِ وَ بِالْيَوْمِ الْاٰخِرِ

and causes others to perceive it.
