The Resurrection

The Resurrection

And look! He asks for this eternal bliss and everlasting life from an All-Hearing and Generous All-Powerful One, from an All-Seeing and Merciful All-Knowing One Who notices, hears, accepts, and mercifully answers even the deepest wishes and the most hidden longings of His most concealed creature. Even when a desire is expressed only silently through the heart, He answers it and shows His mercy. He answers the requests of His creatures with such wisdom, awareness, and mercy that it is beyond dispute that such care and governance can belong only to a Lord Who is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, the Generous, and the Merciful.

Now let us listen to what the Pride of the Universe (peace and blessings be upon him)—the unique chosen one of all ages and the honour of all humanity—asks for. Standing upon the earth as the leader and representative of all mankind, he raises his hands towards the Throne and offers a supplication that embodies the essence of the worship of the entire human race.

Look! He asks for eternal bliss, everlasting life, and Paradise for himself and for his Ummah. Moreover, he asks through Allah's sacred Names, whose beauties are manifested in created beings that serve as mirrors reflecting His Names. In his supplication, he invokes those Names as intercessors. Indeed, even if there were no other proofs for the existence of the Hereafter, his single supplication alone would be sufficient for the creation of Paradise, which is no more difficult for the power of the Merciful Creator than the creation of spring.[1] Indeed, how could the creation of Paradise be difficult for Qadīr-i Mutlaq, Who every spring transforms the face of the earth into a vast place of gathering and displays there hundreds of thousands of examples of resurrection and reassembly?

This means that just as his prophethood became the means for the establishment of this abode of trial, and he was honoured with:

لَوْلَاكَ لَوْلَاكَ لَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْاَفْلَاكَ

so too his worship became the means for the creation of the Abode of Bliss.

Is it at all possible that the Lord of this universe—Who awakens wonder in every observer through the order of creation, and Who manifests within His all-encompassing mercy His flawless artistry and peerless, majestic rubūbiyya—would fail to answer his supplication, thereby allowing such an extreme form of ugliness, mercilessness, and disorder? Is it even conceivable that He would attentively hear and fulfil the smallest and most insignificant desires and voices of His creatures, yet ignore the greatest and most necessary of all requests, regard it as insignificant, and leave it unanswered? Allah forbid! A hundred thousand times, Allah forbid! A Possessor of such sublime beauty can never be associated with such ugliness.[2]

Thus, just as the Noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) opened the gate of this world through his prophethood, so too he opens the gate to the Hereafter through his worship.

  1. Indeed, to display on the face of the earth—which, compared to the Hereafter, is no more than a very narrow page—countless wondrous examples of creation and resurrection, and to write on this single page, in perfect order, the well-ordered and abundant species of beings, which are like three hundred thousand books, is more difficult than bringing the subtle and well-ordered Paradise into existence in the vast Hereafter. Thus, it may even be said that, to the degree Paradise surpasses spring, the creation of the gardens of spring is more difficult and more wondrous than the creation of Paradise. ↩︎
  2. It is a well-known fact that a truth cannot be reversed. It is utterly inconceivable that a truth should become the exact opposite of itself. And it is a thousand times more inconceivable that a truth should unite with its opposite while still preserving its own essence. For example, infinite beauty cannot be transformed into ugliness while still preserving its own essence. In this respect, the sublimity of this rubūbiyya —which is observed and undoubtedly exists— cannot become ugly while preserving its essence. The opposite would be the most absurd notion among all impossibilities and irrational ideas. ↩︎
