The Resurrection
Fifth Truth
The Gate of Compassion and the Servanthood of Muhammed (saw)Sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam (Peace and blessings be upon him): The Manifestation of the Names al-MujībAllah, the One who responds to prayers and answers those who call upon Him. and ar-RahīmAllah, the Most Merciful.
Is it at all possible that the Lord of infinite compassion and mercy—Who is aware of even the smallest need of His lowliest creature and fulfils it with perfect compassion from an unexpected source, Who hears the most hidden voice of His most concealed creature and responds to it, and Who answers every supplication, whether spoken or unspoken—would yet fail to notice the greatest need of His most exalted and beloved servant,[1] and would neither hear nor answer his most important supplication and deepest longing?
For example, the grace and ease with which weak and young animals are provided for and nurtured clearly show that the Owner of this universe governs everything with infinite mercy. Is it then at all possible that the Possessor of such boundless mercy would not answer the most important supplication of the noblest of all creation?
Although this truth has already been explained in The Nineteenth Word, we shall present it once more here because of its connection with our present subject.
O my friend who is listening to this discourse together with me! In our parable, we spoke of an island where a great gathering had assembled. There, the noble envoy delivered a speech and pointed to a profound truth.
Come! Let us detach ourselves from the present age and travel in our imagination to the Arabian Peninsula during the Age of Bliss, so that we may visit the Noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Let us observe him as he fulfils his mission and performs his worship.
See how, through his prophethood and guidance, he is the means by which eternal bliss is attained and the guide leading to it. Likewise, through his worship and supplication, he is also the reason for the existence of that bliss and the creation of Paradise.
- Indeed, he (peace and blessings be upon him), whose spiritual dominion has lasted for thirteen hundred and fifty years and still continues; who in most ages has had more than three hundred and fifty million followers; whose followers renew their allegiance to him daily; whose perfection is continually acknowledged; whose commands are obeyed with complete submission; whose character and moral virtues have enriched half the earth and one fifth of humanity; and who is the deepest beloved in the hearts of many and the refiner of their souls, is undoubtedly the most exalted servant of the Lord Who governs this universe. And because most of the species of beings in the universe have displayed the fruits of his miracles and thereby acknowledged his prophethood and messengership, he (peace and blessings be upon him) is undoubtedly the most beloved creature of the Creator of this universe. And since all humanity, with all its capacities, longs for a need such as eternity, and since this need raises man from asfal-i sāfilīnThe lowest and most degraded state. to alā-i illiyyīnThe highest heights; the loftiest of the lofty., it is undoubtedly the greatest and most important need of man. Therefore, the most exalted servant (peace and blessings be upon him) will plead on behalf of all before Qādīyul-HājātAllah, who perfectly fulfills the needs of all His creation. for this need of humanity to be fulfilled. ↩︎
