The Resurrection

The Resurrection

In the same way, this universe requires an All-Wise, All-Knowing, All-Powerful Creator. For this vast universe functions as a palace, with the sun and moon as its lamps, the stars as its candles, and time like a ribbon upon which Sāni-i Dhu’l-Jalāl attaches and presents to us a new world each year like a scene. Every day He renews this world in perfect order, with absolute balance and wisdom. He has made the face of the earth a table of bounties. Every spring He fills it with more than three hundred thousand varieties of His artistic creations and with countless varieties of blessings, in such a way that the blessings are most precisely distinguished from one another despite being intermingled. And this is only one of many possible comparisons. Indeed, how can one overlook the Creator of such a palace?

Furthermore, it is just as foolish and irrational to deny the existence of the sun at midday while its manifestations and reflections are visible in every drop of water, every shining object, and every snowflake. For by denying the sun, one would have to accept the existence of countless tiny suns, equal in number to the drops of water, shining objects, and snowflakes. One would then have to assume that every atom contains the qualities of a vast sun, even though the atom is only large enough to contain itself.

By comparison, it would be an even greater absurdity and a more serious foolishness not to recognize Khāliq-i Dhul-Jalāl and His perfect attributes, while this ordered universe is constantly changing with purpose and being renewed with precision. In that case, one would have to accept that within everything, even within every atom, there exists a form of absolute divinity.

For example, every atom in the air can enter every blossom, fruit, and leaf and function there. If that atom were not an officer of Allah, then it would have to know all the developmental processes, forms, and structures of whatever it enters in order to operate effectively. This would mean that it must possess all-encompassing knowledge and absolute power in order to act in this way.

Likewise, every atom in the earth is capable of serving as a cause and source for all kinds of different seeds and kernels. If that atom were not an official of Allah, then it would have to possess immaterial tools and machines equal in number to all plants and trees. Otherwise, one would have to accept that every atom in the earth possesses an artistry and power that know and bring about both the full developmental processes and the final forms and structures of these organisms. Other created beings may be analyzed in the same way.

Ultimately, you will see that in everything there are many clear proofs for the unity of Allah. Indeed, to create all things from one thing, and to create one thing from all things, can only be attributed to the One Who is the Creator of all things. Reflect upon the following well-known proclamation:

وَ اِنْ مِنْ شَىْءٍ اِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهٖ

Thus, whoever does not recognize Wāhid-i Ahad is compelled to accept as many gods as there are created beings.
