The Resurrection

The Eleventh Truth

The Gate of Humanity: The Manifestation of the Name al-Haqq

Is it at all possible that Mabud-i bil-Haqq —Who has appointed man within this universe as the most important servant in relation to His absolute Lordship and His all-encompassing governance over all creation; chosen him as the most reflective addressee of His flawless speech; created him as the most comprehensive mirror for the manifestations of His Names; fashioned him as a miracle of His power in the best form for the manifestation of ism-i azam and also for the manifestation of each of His Names at the highest level; equipped him as an investigator with the richest instruments and tools, both material and spiritual senses, for weighing and knowing the treasures of His mercy; made him the most needy in relation to His infinite bounties; made him the most afflicted by transience; created him with the most intense longing for eternity; made him the most delicate, most demanding, poorest, and most needy among all living beings; made him the most vulnerable and unhappy with respect to this worldly life; and endowed him with the most exalted capacities— would not send man to an eternal abode for which he is destined, which he longs for, and of which he is worthy, and that He would thereby nullify the essence of humanity, act in complete contradiction to His own truthfulness, and commit a grave injustice against the truth itself?

And is it at all possible that Hākim-i bil-Haqq, Rahīm-i Mutlaq —Who has given man such capacity that he undertook the bearing of Amanat-i Kubra, from which the heavens, the earth, and the mountains shrank back, and thereby enabled him to know the all-encompassing attributes and acts of his Creator and the boundless manifestations of His Names by comparing them with his own limited capacities and small works; Who appointed man to proclaim, in word and deed, His flawless Lordship by giving him charge over all animals and plants, by making him a representative who interprets the glorification and worship of those creatures in human rank, and by displaying him as a small-scale example of His divine acts in the universe, although He created him on earth as the most delicate, most sensitive, most demanding, most powerless, and weakest creature; and Who appointed him as the master of creation by preferring him over the angels— would not grant eternal bliss as the purpose, result, and fruit of the duties He assigned to man?

And would He act in complete contradiction to His perfect wisdom and mercy, thereby committing an act of mercilessness, by placing man in the most unhappy, most helpless, most afflicted, most burdened with cares, and most pitiable state among all creatures, and by turning the intellect—which is a blessed and luminous instrument of happiness and a gift of His wisdom—into an ominous, dark, and tormenting instrument for that helpless being? No, absolutely not!

In short, just as we saw in our story that the rank, duties, salary, instructions, and equipment recorded in the documents of an officer show us that he is not meant for that transient land, but rather for an eternal abode and that he is working for it, so too the ahl-i tahqīq and ahl-i kashf unanimously testify that the spiritual senses of man’s heart, intellect, and nature are entirely directed toward eternal bliss, and have been specifically given and equipped for it.

For example, suppose the faculty of imagination, which is a servant and the image-forming faculty of the intellect, is told: “You will be given one million years of life and dominion over the world, but in the end you will certainly cease to exist completely.” Provided that delusion does not deceive it and the nafs does not interfere, it will feel sorrow instead of relief and will grieve over this. This means that even the greatest transient pleasure cannot satisfy the smallest faculty of man.

Indeed, the human desires that extend toward eternity, the thoughts that encompass the entire universe, and the wishes directed toward all kinds of bounties of eternal bliss all show that man was created for eternity and will reach it. This world is a guesthouse for him and serves as a waiting room for the Hereafter.
