A Preliminary Note

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحٖيمِ

قَالَتْ رُسُلُهُمْ اَفِى اللّٰهِ شَكٌّ فَاطِرِ السَّمٰوَاتِ وَالْاَرْضِ

By presenting the matter in the form of a rhetorical negation, this Qur’anic verse declares that there is no doubt about Allah, nor can there be any, and thereby clearly demonstrates the existence and unity of Allah.

A Preliminary Note Before Unveiling the Secret of This Verse

In 1922, I visited Ankara and observed that the believers’ morale was exceptionally high due to their victory in the War of Independence against the Greeks. However, I also noticed that a dreadful atheistic current was deceitfully at work, seeking to undermine, poison, and destroy the hearts and minds of the believers. I said, “O my Lord, this monster will attack the fundamentals of faith.”

Since the above-mentioned Qur’anic verse clearly demonstrates the existence and unity of Allah, I sought assistance from it and wrote an Arabic treatise presenting a proof derived from the Qur’an, powerful enough to repel and destroy that atheistic current. I had it printed at the Yeni Gün Press in Ankara. Unfortunately, because there were few people who knew Arabic and even fewer who showed serious interest, that powerful proof—presented in an extremely concise and condensed form—did not produce the desired and expected effect. Regrettably, that atheistic current both expanded and spread.

Now I feel more or less compelled to explain that proof, at least in part, in Turkish. Since some of the proofs presented in this treatise have already been explained in detail elsewhere in the Risale-i Nur, they will be summarized here. The numerous proofs found in the other treatises unite, as it were, within this proof, and in this respect each of them may be regarded as a part of it.
