Nature Or The Creator

Nature Or The Creator

Indeed, an eternal power created the heavens and the earth in six days, creates more than four hundred thousand forms of life simultaneously each year upon the face of the earth, and in every spring, within six weeks, constructs a living world more artful and filled with wisdom than the universe itself. To deny creation, and to deem it unbelievable that an eternal power should grant external existence to beings whose plans, forms, and qualities were already present in His knowledge before they existed outwardly, is a greater foolishness and ignorance than that of the sophists, the first group. This may be compared to a chemical substance that makes writing written in invisible ink visible. Just as that substance reveals the writing, so Divine Power grants external existence to beings that already exist within His knowledge.

Since such fools are utterly powerless, possess nothing but a very limited will, and are unable either to annihilate anything or to create anything from nothing—and since the nature and causes upon which they rely are likewise unable to bring even the smallest thing into existence from nothing—they say in their foolishness: “Nothing can come from nothing, and nothing returns to nothing.” And they attempt to apply this meaningless and false claim to the Absolutely Powerful One.

Indeed, Qadīr-i Dhul-Jalāl creates in two ways:

The first way is origination from nothing. In other words, He brings a being into existence from nothing, creates all its necessities from nothing, and places them in its hand.

The second way is composition. In other words, in order to display subtle purposes—such as the perfection of His wisdom and the various manifestations of His names—He forms certain beings from the elements of the universe. He sends atoms and elements to those beings according to His law of provision and sets them to work within them.

Indeed, Qadīr-i Mutlaq creates in two ways. For Him, the easiest of all things is to cause what exists to cease existing and to bring what does not exist into existence—a reality He displays everywhere and at all times. Those who oppose the One Who, in spring, grants existence from nothing to the forms, qualities, and—perhaps apart from atoms—all the characteristics and states of more than three hundred thousand forms of life, and who claim that He cannot give existence to what does not exist, ought to question their own existence.

The person who had abandoned Naturalism and embraced the truth said:

“I thank, praise, and glorify Allah as many times as there are atoms in existence. I have attained perfect faith; I have been saved from uncertainty and misguidance, and not a single doubt remains.”
