The Mysteries of Bismillah
The Fourteenth Flash – Part II
Indeed, just as the Zāt-i AqdasAllah, the Most Holy One, exalted above all imperfection., who governs the entire universe with perfect order as though it were a palace or a house, who moves the stars with wisdom and ease as though they were particles, and who employs even the smallest particles as orderly servants, has no partner, equal, or counterpart, so too, according to the secret of the verse:
لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَىْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرNothing is comparable to Him; He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
He can have no form, likeness, example, or equivalent.
But according to the secret of:
وَلَهُ الْمَثَلُ اْلاَعْلٰى فِى السَّمٰوَاتِ وَاْلاَرْضِ وَهُوَ اْلعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمTo Him belongs the highest description in the heavens and the earth, and He is the Almighty, the All-Wise.
analogies and comparisons may be be drawn with respect to His Acts, Attributes, and Names. Such comparisons relate only to His Acts, Attributes, and Names, never to His Essence.
One of the many meanings contained in this hadithA report of the sayings, actions, or approvals of Prophet Muhammed (pbuh). of the Prophet (saw)Sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam (Peace and blessings be upon him) is the following:
As explained earlier, the Name ar-RahmānAllah, the Most Compassionate. becomes manifest upon the face of the universe through the rays of the thousand and one Divine Names; and just as this same Name ar-RahmānAllah, the Most Compassionate. is displayed upon the face of the earth through the countless manifestations of absolute Divine Lordship, so too the comprehensive nature of man—like the face of the earth and the face of the universe—displays, on a small scale, the most complete manifestation of that same Name ar-RahmānAllah, the Most Compassionate..
This also indicates that living beings—and especially man—as mirrors and proofs of ar-Rahmān ar-RahīmAllah, Whose mercy and compassion encompass everything., point to Him in a clear, manifest, and decisive manner. Just as one may say of a clear mirror reflecting the image of the sun, “This mirror is the sun,” in order to emphasize the perfection of its reflection, so too the expression “In man the form of the RahmānAllah, the Most Compassionate, whose mercy embraces all creation. is known” is employed to express the clarity of this indication and the perfection of its relation.
Accordingly, the moderate exponents of wahdatul-wujūdA school of thought that regards all created existence as insignificant or shadow-like in comparison with the absolute existence of Allah, with some of its adherents maintaining that nothing besides Allah possesses true existence., based on this secret, have said Lā mawjūda illā HūThere is no true existent except Him. —not to deny the existence of creation, but to express the clarity of its indication and the perfection of its relation to Allah.
O Allah, O Most Compassionate, O Most Merciful! By virtue of ‘In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful,’ have mercy upon us in a manner befitting Your attribute of Mercy, and grant us understanding of the mysteries of ‘In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful’ in a manner befitting Your attribute of All-Encompassing Compassion.
