The Mysteries of Bismillah

The Fourteenth Flash – Part II

For example, the sun encompasses countless things with its light. Yet to contemplate the sun itself—the source of all its light and brilliance—requires a very broad understanding and an all-embracing vision. But because its essence appears in every shining object through its reflection, one does not lose sight of the sun itself. Every shining object, according to its own capacity, displays both the manifestation of the sun’s essence and its qualities, such as light and heat. And just as every shining object reflects the sun with all its qualities according to its capacity, each of its qualities—such as its light, its heat, and the seven colours contained in its light—also encompasses all the objects that come into contact with it.

In the same way, the ahadiyyah and samadiyyah of Allah manifest themselves in every thing, especially in living beings, and particularly in the essence of the human being, which serves as a mirror, with a reflection of all His Names. At the same time, each of His Names connected with creation, as a requirement of His wahdah and wāhidiyyah, encompasses the whole of creation. Thus, so that the mind does not drown in wāhidiyyah and so that hearts do not forget Zāt-i Aqdas, the Qur’an continually points to the seal of ahadiyyah within wāhidiyyah; and it is precisely this seal of ahadiyyah that Bismillāhir-Rahmānir-Rahīm shows through its three fundamental, key-like indications.

The Third Mystery

What visibly brings this boundless universe to life is mercy.

What does not leave all things in the darkness of non-existence, but calls them into the light of existence, is without doubt also mercy.

What nurtures and cares for creatures amid their countless needs is, without doubt, again mercy.

What turns the entire universe toward the human being, causes him to be cared for from every side, and makes everything hasten to his aid—like a tree whose whole form is directed toward its fruit—is likewise, without doubt, mercy.

And what fills, illuminates, and enlivens this vast expanse and seemingly empty cosmos is visibly mercy.

And what makes this transient human being fit for eternity and makes him an addressee and friend of the Eternal and Everlasting One is unmistakably mercy.

O human being! Since mercy is such a powerful, attractive, lovable, and helpful reality, say Bismillāhir-Rahmānir-Rahīm; hold fast to it, and be saved from absolute loneliness and from the pains that arise from countless needs. Draw near to the throne of that Eternal and Everlasting Sultan, and through the tenderness, intercession, and rays of that mercy, become an addressee, intimate, and friend of that Sultan.

Indeed, the fact that all species in the universe are gathered around the human being within the circle of wisdom and are directed toward all his needs with perfect order and care can clearly be explained in only one of two ways:
