Brotherhood in Islam

Brotherhood in Islam

A hadith reports that at the end of time, dreadful and harmful figures such as Sufyān and Dajjāl will appear and take command of all hypocrites and the people of unbelief. They will exploit the greed and division among Muslims and humanity, and with minimal effort they will cause immense harm and corruption among mankind and bring the vast Islamic world into subjugation.

O believers! If you do not wish to fall into disgraceful captivity, come to your senses! Against the tyrants who seek to profit from your divisions, enter the sacred fortress of

اِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ اِخْوَةٌ

and seek refuge in it. Otherwise, you will be able neither to protect your lives nor to defend your rights. It is well known that when two heroes are wrestling with one another, even a child can defeat them both. Likewise, when two mountains are balanced against one another on a scale, a small stone can upset that balance and play with them, causing one side to rise and the other to fall.

Indeed, O believers! Through your greed and hostile partisanship, your strength has been reduced to nothing, so that you can easily be overcome. If you care about your social life, then make the exalted principle

اَلْمُؤْمِنُ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ كَالْبُنْيَانِ الْمَرْصُوصِ يَشُدُّ بَعْضُهُ بَعْضًا

a guiding principle of your lives. In this way, you will be saved from humiliation in this world and from torment in the Hereafter.

The Sixth Aspect

Spiritual life and the sound practice of servanthood suffer through enmity and stubbornness, because ikhlās —the means of salvation and deliverance— is lost through them. For a partisan and stubborn person hopes that his own deeds will surpass those of his opponent, and therefore can rarely act purely for the sake of Allah. Likewise, in his judgments and dealings with others, he favours those who support his own side and is unable to act with justice. Thus, ikhlās and justice—the foundation of righteous deeds—are lost through discord and enmity.

This Sixth Aspect is extremely extensive. Since this is not the place for a detailed treatment, we shall suffice with this much.
