Old Age: Consoling Hopes
The First Truth
The hidden enemies of the Risale-i Nur and myself had deceived certain credulous officials. They imagined that, by undermining the public esteem in which I was held, they could obstruct the spread and victories of the Risale-i Nur. Thus, with the intention of discrediting me in the eyes of the people, they incited those officials to subject me to such humiliating treatment.
Thereupon, Divine mercy manifested itself on account of the Risale-i Nur’s service to īmānFaith; belief in the six articles of faith: Allah, His angels, His revealed scriptures, His prophets, the Hereafter, and divine decree (qadar)., showing us that, in return for the hostility of a single man, a hundred others appreciated our service to the Qur’an and received us with honour, compassion, and affection.
Indeed, the very next day, while I was answering the public prosecutor’s questions in the examining magistrate’s office, nearly a thousand people gathered with great concern in the courtyard of the government building, beneath the courtroom windows. Their very demeanour seemed to say: “Do not harass them!” The police were unable to disperse them.
It was inspired in my heart that, in these perilous times, these people deeply long for true consolation, an inextinguishable light, strong īmānFaith; belief in the six articles of faith: Allah, His angels, His revealed scriptures, His prophets, the Hereafter, and divine decree (qadar)., and genuine glad tidings of eternal happiness. They seek these things by their very nature and had heard that what they sought could be found in the Risale-i Nur.
For this reason, they showed me an appreciation far beyond what my insignificant person deserved, simply because I had rendered some small service to īmānFaith; belief in the six articles of faith: Allah, His angels, His revealed scriptures, His prophets, the Hereafter, and divine decree (qadar)..
The Second Truth
It was inspired in my heart that, in contrast to the humiliating treatment inflicted upon us by a few deceived individuals, who sought to undermine public esteem for us under the mistaken suspicion that we were disturbing public security, there stood the appreciation and acclaim of countless people of truth and even of future generations.
Indeed, against the terrible efforts of anarchy, concealed beneath the guise of communism, to undermine public security, the Risale-i Nur and its students, through the strength of īmān-i tahqīqīVerified faith; a firm and deeply rooted belief in Allah based on knowledge, reflection, and personal conviction, rather than mere imitation or unquestioning acceptance., strive throughout the country to halt and overcome this dreadful corruption and to preserve security and public order.
And although the students of the Risale-i Nur are exceedingly numerous and spread throughout the country, over the course of twenty years the courts of three or four provinces and the police of ten provinces have neither discovered nor recorded a single incident in which they violated public order.
Indeed, some fair-minded police officers in three provinces have declared:
“The Nur students are a spiritual police force. They assist us in maintaining public order. Through īmān-i tahqīqīVerified faith; a firm and deeply rooted belief in Allah based on knowledge, reflection, and personal conviction, rather than mere imitation or unquestioning acceptance., they place an inner guardian in the mind of everyone who reads the Risale-i Nur, thereby helping to preserve security.”
