THE FLASHES
The Sixteenth Flash
Since life, with all its faculties and aspects, is the source and origin of gratitude, worship, and praise, no fixed uniformity or regularity has been established here to serve as a veil over the particular Divine will, nor any outward means to act as a covering over the particular Divine mercy.
In the children who are in their mothers’ wombs, two Divine manifestations appear in their outward and inward faces.
First: He shows His unity, His ahadiyyahAllah’s oneness as manifested in every individual being. and His samadiyyahAllah’s attribute of absolute self-sufficiency, upon whom all creation depends.. For by resembling other human beings in his principal limbs and in the various human faculties, the child bears witness to the unity of his Creator and Maker.
With this language, the embryo proclaims, as it were:
“The One Who has given me this face and these limbs is also the Creator and Maker of all human beings who resemble me in their nature. He is also the Creator of all living beings.”
This language of the embryo is not hidden or unknowable, for it is bound to fixed laws and to the nature of its species. It is knowable. It is like a branch or a voice extending from the visible world toward the world of the unseen.
Second: With the face of his own allotted disposition and with his personal, unique face, he proclaims the free choice, will, and disposal of his Creator, as well as His particular mercy directed toward him, and testifies that He is subject to no limitation.
This language, however, comes from the very depths of the unseen. Nothing other than Eternal Knowledge can encompass or comprehend it before it comes into existence. While the child is still in the mother’s womb, not even one thousandth of the faculties contained in this inner face can be fathomed.
In short: in the face of the embryo’s disposition and in his personal face there is both a proof of Divine unity and a testimony to Allah’s free choice and will.
If Allah makes it possible, several further subtle points concerning the Mughayyabāt-i KhamsaThe Five Matters of the Unseen; five matters mentioned in the Qur’an (31:34) whose complete knowledge belongs to Allah alone: the Hour of Judgment, the sending of rain, what is in the wombs, what a person will earn tomorrow, and where a person will die. will be written later. Since my time and circumstances do not permit further elaboration, I end here.
