The Turning Point in Bediuzzaman’s Life

During the years Bediuzzaman lived in Van, he regularly read newspapers and closely followed developments in the Ottoman Empire and around the world. One day, the news he came across shook him to his very core.

In the British House of Commons, William Ewart Gladstone, while serving as Secretary of State for the Colonies, had reportedly made a statement that deeply affected the Muslim world. He declared:

“As long as the Qur’an remains in the hands of the Muslims, we will never be able to dominate them. We must either eliminate the Qur’an or prevent Muslims from following it.”

Outraged by this report, Bediuzzaman resolved upon a lifelong mission and strategy of service:

“I will prove and demonstrate that the Qur’an is an everlasting spiritual sun that can never be extinguished.”

A dream he had during that period further clarified his purpose. In the dream, he was with his mother beneath Mount Ararat when the mountain suddenly exploded, scattering its fragments across the world. He reassured his mother, saying:

“Do not be afraid. This is a command from Allah. He is both All-Wise and Most Merciful.”

Then the Prophet Muhammed (saw)Sallallāhu alayhi wa sallam (Peace and blessings be upon him) appeared and instructed him:

“Convey the message that the Qur’an is a true miracle.”

Bediuzzaman awoke suddenly, overwhelmed by the intensity of the dream. The command penetrated deeply into his soul.

From that moment on, he had only one goal: to proclaim and spread the miraculous nature of the Qur’an and its truths throughout the world.

Carrying the weight of these profound feelings, Bediuzzaman embraced a great purpose, a noble cause, and a demanding path. This mission, which encompassed his entire world, inspired him to devote himself with even greater dedication, care, and attentiveness. To fulfill it, he made the Qur’an the guiding program of his life.

From that day forward, the Qur’an became his sole guide and compass.
